Widget Marketing
Widget Marketing is a relatively new phenomenon. Social Networking sites like Facebook and MySpace have led to an increase in the use of widgets/gadgets, and over the last few months KMP have really noticed them gaining momentum.
So what are Widgets?
Widgets are often referred to as web widgets, and can be defined as chunks of embeddable code that can be grabbed on one site, and embedded in another. Widgets can also be referred to as gadgets, modules or badges. An important concept about widgets is that you don’t have to be a developer to make use of them. Anybody who understands copy/paste is able to display widgetised content or functionality on their own blog, social networking profile page, or personal website.
The Benefits
Widgets are all about providing your users with the tools to promote your business. A properly executed widget can spread like wild fire - introducing your site's content/functionality to new users who may not have known that your website even existed. Widgets can be a great way of raising people's awareness of your company/website, and can serve as a great way to acquire new customers at a minimal cost, whilst reducing your website's dependence on SEO.
At their core, widgets are really about providing more control and a better experience to web users. Specifically, they're about giving users the ability to call up specific content and functionality when and where they want it.
People like being able to customise their online presence with widgets. It's a great way for people to provide a better experience for their friends/readers, and a way to broadcast a bit about themselves to the world.
KMP and Widgets
KMP have recently been developing widgets to re-publish web content on a variety of widget platforms such as Google Gadgets, Springwidgets and Clearspring
We are also in the process of developing our own widgets for some of our clients.
