After three years of being told by the media that … "This will be the year of the mobile" … I finally believe it.
Since January, we have experienced a new interest in mobile applications, stimulated I believe by the amazing demand for the new Apple iphone. There are supposed to be around 250,000 iphones in the UK today and the rate of growth has exceeded all expectations. This demand, coupled with the excitement created by a number of dedicated iphone sites from businesses such as Amazon, Facebook and Starbucks, and examples of successful mobile digital marketing solutions from the Far East, I believe will be the catalyst for change.
At KMP we are currently developing an iphone site for a retail client, which will allow easy purchasing from the hand held platform. Even though the iphone allows you to browse existing web sites easily, it often needs a specialist User Interface to opimise the content delivery. I hope this will be the first of several projects this year.
