Embedded video in emails (2)

Since last week we have decided that the video is sent either as a video codec file or as flash object tag linking to the flash video communication server.

Given the short length of the video and our clients expectations, we have recommended that the email will be produced using a video codec file rather than a flash object tag, which will play within all Microsoft programs such as outlook and IE5.

If it doesn’t play the viewer will automatically default to a clickable  image link which will open the flash movie version within the users internet browser. With this method there are 4 sets of files to be hosted – the flash video, the video codec, flash object and the html. The codec file is only appropriate for short taster videos of a couple minutes and the flash video is a better route for higher quality longer versions.
